KitchenCru is more than a community kitchen: it’s a 4800-square-foot culinary incubator. At KitchenCru our mission is to support culinary inspired entrepreneurs in developing, operating, and growing a successful business. We understand the exhilarating hardships that come with making any dream a reality and aim to overcome the obstacles of success by providing complete access to a fully equipped, licensed, commercial kitchen and private event space. We also provide support and business referrals to professional services, including accounting, legal, insurance, banking, graphic design, marketing and advertising. All the while, our space encourages collaboration and advancement in the Portland food and drink community.
We also help our artisan clients deliver to the masses by setting up a website complete with a commerce storefront and established sales channel to get our clients’ products distributed to local supermarkets and other outlets.
The support and equipment we provide to our clients translate into successful artisan companies, restaurants, and catering businesses. We have helped foster success with Jacobsen Salt Co., Tails and Trotters, BraziBites and non-traditional restaurants like Holdfast Dining and NomadPDX. We believe there is no better way to succeed than to be surrounded by inspirational people with similar goals and aspirations.

Owner, KitchenCru, CruMarket, Bowery Bagels, and Remedy Wine Bar
An entrepreneur and accomplished businessman, Michael Madigan is the brains behind KitchenCru and the owner at both Bowery Bagels and Remedy Wine Bar. A New York City native, Michael moved to Portland, Oregon in 1987. With a love of food and wine and a passion for knowledge, Michael opened Portland’s KitchenCru, a shared use community kitchen and culinary incubator, in March 2011. Surrounded and inspired by creativity and talent, and driven by the desire for a solid, New York-style bagel, he eventually decided that enough was enough and opened his own Bowery Bagels and CruMarket in 2012. Michael and his wife, Lynn, live just south of Portland in West Linn, Oregon.
Chef and Operations Manager
Jeff McCarthy is the Chef and Operations Manager at KitchenCru. Originally from upstate New York, Jeff got his start in the food industry as dishwasher. He comes from experience as Head Pastry Cook at Carlyle, Pastry Chef at Ten-01, and as a pastry consultant at well-respected Portland establishments such as Wildwood, Besaw’s, and Genoa, before joining KitchenCru in 2011. At KitchenCru, Jeff oversees and manages the kitchen experience of more than 20 burgeoning local food-based businesses. In his own words, “KitchenCru has provided an environment for the DIY food scene that Portland didn’t even know it needed. We have created a gold standard for shared kitchen space in Portland and even possibly the nation.” Jeff is also in charge of creation and execution of tasting menus at TenTop, the exclusive pop-up supper club. In his spare time, Jeff enjoys mountain biking and snowboarding in the winter and he is an excited soon to be first time dad.
